Improved Cook Stoves
in Malawi

Helping rural families switch to safer, cleaner, more efficient cookstoves.

  • Improved Cookstoves Combat Deforestation and Emissions

Traditional three-stone fires in Malawi consume vast amounts of wood, causing deforestation and significant greenhouse gas emissions, while also placing the burden of wood collection predominantly on women.

  • Changu Changu Moto Saves 2.5 Tonnes of Carbon Yearly

The wood-burning efficiency of Changu Changu Motos allows women to save approximately 10 hours weekly on firewood collection, reducing wood use by 100 bundles per cookstove annually, equivalent to 2.5 tonnes of carbon emissions.

  • Health and Efficiency Benefits for Women and Children

Besides reducing environmental pollution, improved cookstoves in Malawi lessen health risks associated with traditional fires, such as lung cancer and childhood pneumonia, due to decreased smoke exposure.

WHO Reports 4 Million Annual Deaths from Smoke Exposure

Changu Changu Moto cookstoves offer a cleaner and more contemporary alternative to traditional three-stone fires, minimizing exposure to harmful smoke and associated health risks.

Women and children, who typically spend more time near household cookstoves, face the highest risk of health issues from three-stone fires. Changu Changu Motos not only improve their health but also reduce injuries associated with open fire cooking.
