Connecting Culture and Country — TechForGood x Jabalbina

Migelie Luna |

Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation is at the heart of preserving Country and Culture in the Daintree region. Yet like many remote communities, limited digital access has long created challenges — from coordinating conservation efforts to sharing important cultural stories with the wider world.

TechForGood’s partnership with Jabalbina brings reliable, high-speed connectivity to Country through Starlink satellite internet, empowering Traditional Owners with the tools they need to lead the way in environmental and cultural restoration.

The Challenge

In the remote Daintree Rainforest, lack of stable internet access posed real barriers:

🛡️ Coordinating emergency responses in vast, rugged terrain

📚 Accessing education, training, and essential services

🎥 Documenting and sharing vital cultural knowledge and conservation efforts

🌳 Monitoring ongoing environmental restoration projects in real time

Without reliable digital tools, the full potential of Jabalbina’s Healing of Country and Culture Program couldn’t be fully realised.

Our Solution

Through our Catalysing Connections program, TechForGood delivered:

📡 Starlink satellite internet services for remote field sites

📱 Digital access tools to support real-time reporting, monitoring, and storytelling

🤝 Ongoing tech support to ensure seamless integration with Jabalbina’s on-ground operations

This reliable, high-speed connectivity is helping Traditional Owners lead conservation and cultural efforts, while safely and effectively coordinating across Country.

The Outcome

Thanks to this connection:

Jabalbina can now livestream and report on rainforest restoration and cultural surveys in real time

🌱 Community members have better access to online education, training, and emergency communications

🎥 Cultural stories and environmental progress can be documented, preserved, and shared with the wider world

🧡 The Healing of Country and Culture Program can now reach — and inspire — even more people

"This technology empowers us to care for Country and culture in ways our ancestors could only dream of — and it ensures our stories and stewardship live on for future generations."Jabalbina Ranger

Why It Matters

Partnerships like this represent the true spirit of Catalysing Connections — bridging not just the digital divide, but the gap between past, present, and future.

Through initiatives like these, TechForGood is delivering on our moonshot:
1 million connections and 1 million GB of donated data by 2030.

When technology supports cultural preservation and environmental healing, connection becomes something much deeper than just data — it becomes legacy.
