Certified Sustainable ICT Procurement

Have you assessed your technology partners through an ESG Lens? These global certifications ensure the tech you choose is responsibly made, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly.

What Makes Tech Sustainable?

Certified Sustainable Tech devices and equipment are defined not just by their energy efficiency, but by how responsibly they’re made, used, and retired. Here's how to assess them through an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) lens, with a focus on global certifications:

1. Environmental Responsibility

  • Energy Efficiency: Devices with the TCO, EPEAT, and ENERGY STAR label meet strict energy performance standards, reducing electricity use and carbon emissions.
  • Lifecycle Impact: TCO and EPEAT, evaluates how a product is manufactured, used, and disposed of. Products are assessed based on their full lifecycle - from raw material extraction to end-of-life recycling.
  • Design for Circularity: TCO and EPEAT, look for modular designs that allow for easy repair, upgrades, and recycling, minimizing e-waste.

2. Social Responsibility

  • Ethical Manufacturing: TCO products are independently verified to ensure fair labor practices, worker health and safety, and conflict-free sourcing.
  • Transparency: Companies that disclose their supply chain practices and ESG performance (e.g., through annual ESG reports) show a commitment to social accountability.

3. Governance and Accountability

  • Third-Party Certifications: Certifications like TCO, EPEAT, and ENERGY STAR are independently verified, ensuring credibility.
  • Corporate ESG Strategy: Tech partners with clear sustainability goals, public reporting, and third-party audits demonstrate strong governance.

By choosing tech that meets these standards, you're not just buying a device, you’re supporting a more sustainable and ethical tech ecosystem.

Certified for Sustainability: TCO Certified IT Products

Using TCO Certified products supports your organisation’s efforts to take the next step in social and environmental responsibility. TCO Certified is the world-leading sustainability certification for IT products. Their comprehensive criteria are designed to drive social and environmental responsibility throughout the product life cycle.

Covering 12 product categories including computers, mobile devices, display products, imaging equipment and data center products, compliance is independently verified, both pre and post certification.

EPEAT: Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool

A method for purchasers to evaluate the effect of a product on the environment. It assesses various lifecycle environmental aspects of a device and ranks products as Gold, Silver or Bronze based on a set of environmental performance criteria.

Manufacturers and/or brands in EPEAT must engage with a Conformity Assurance Body (CAB) and prove conformance with EPEAT criteria before their products can appear in the EPEAT Registry. CABs are experienced verification organizations that must meet ISO/IEC 17020 or ISO/IEC 17065, and fulfill EPEAT’s eligibility requirements on an ongoing basis.
