Apply for Brand-New Smartphones and 12 Months of Connectivity

Through Catalysing Connections, TechForGood provides brand-new smartphones with sufficient data, calls and texts to keep each recipient connected for a full year.

Delivered through trusted community partners, every package is designed to support safety, participation and opportunity while protecting dignity in both giving and receiving.

Are you a charity helping to bridge the digital divide?

Catalysing Connections works with registered charities to get technology and connectivity into the hands of people who need it most.

If your organisation supports people experiencing digital exclusion and can distribute donated technology directly to your beneficiaries or community, we'd love to hear from you.

What is Catalysing Connections?

Catalysing Connections is TechForGood's digital inclusion initiative, providing phones, mobile data and internet connectivity to people experiencing digital exclusion.

Catalysing Connections is funded by 100% of the profits from Recover-E, TechForGood's secure and sustainable IT asset disposal service.

Working through trusted charity and community partners, we support people and communities who may otherwise struggle to access the technology and connectivity many of us take for granted.

This can mean a phone and mobile data for someone rebuilding their life, technology that helps a young person participate in education or employment, or connectivity that supports people living and working in remote communities.

Our goal is to create 1 million Human Connections by 2030.

Who Can Apply?

To apply for Catalysing Connections, your organisation must:

  • have a valid ABN; and
  • use the donated technology or connectivity directly for the beneficiaries or communities your organisation supports.

Important: Donated technology and connectivity cannot be used for your organisation's own staff, administration, operations or other internal use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need DGR endorsement?

DGR endorsement allows TechForGood to claim eligible donations as a tax deduction. This helps our Catalysing Connections funding go further, so we can support more people and communities.

For this reason, current DGR endorsement is required for organisations receiving donations through Catalysing Connections.

Who can use the donated technology?

The technology and connectivity we provide is for the beneficiaries and communities your organisation supports.

It cannot be used for your organisation's own staff, administration, operations or internal technology needs.

What technology can we apply for?

Catalysing Connections provides mobile phones with 12 months of SIM/data connectivity and satellite equipment with 12 months of satellite connectivity.

What we provide will depend on the needs of the people or community you support and the technology and funding available.

Is 12 months of connectivity included?

Yes. Each approved activation includes 12 months of connectivity, provided either as a mobile SIM/data plan or a satellite connectivity package.

How long will our activation take?

Once the Catalysing Connections Activation Agreement has been signed, please allow approximately 2–3 weeks for your technology and connectivity to be prepared and delivered.

Are the phones donated permanently?

Yes. Approved phones are donated outright for distribution to the beneficiaries or communities identified in your approved activation. They are not loan devices.

Can donated technology be resold?

No. Donated technology cannot be sold by the recipient organisation or used for commercial gain. It must be used to support the beneficiaries or communities identified in the approved activation.

What happens after phones are donated?

Your organisation is responsible for distributing the phones for the purpose agreed in the Catalysing Connections Activation Agreement.

Once a phone has been provided to a beneficiary, we recognise that your organisation cannot reasonably control what that individual chooses to do with it in the future. We do not expect our community partners to continually monitor individual recipients.

What warranty is provided with devices?

Donated devices are covered by the applicable manufacturer's warranty.

Warranty details and information about how to make a warranty claim are included in the donation pack provided with your activation.

Where do beneficiaries get support?

For privacy reasons, TechForGood does not provide direct support to individual beneficiaries or end users.

For device or warranty support, beneficiaries should contact the device manufacturer. For SIM, mobile or satellite connectivity support, they should contact the relevant connectivity provider.

All relevant support details are included in the donation pack.

Do you need beneficiary information?

No. TechForGood does not require the names or personal details of individual beneficiaries.

Please do not provide personal or sensitive information about individual beneficiaries. We only need information about the people or communities your organisation supports and how the technology or connectivity will benefit them.

Do you contact individual beneficiaries?

No. TechForGood works with the recipient charity or community organisation. We do not contact individual beneficiaries.

Do we need to provide impact reports?

We may ask for reasonable information to confirm that the technology has been distributed for the approved purpose and may invite your organisation to share impact stories or outcomes.

We do not require personal information about individual beneficiaries.

Is every eligible application approved?

No. Applications are assessed based on eligibility, community need, available funding and technology, and the objectives of Catalysing Connections.

Submitting an application or expression of interest does not guarantee approval.

What happens after we are approved?

TechForGood will confirm the activation with you and send you a Catalysing Connections Activation Agreement.

Once the agreement has been signed, your technology and connectivity will normally be prepared and delivered within 2–3 weeks.

How is Catalysing Connections funded?

Catalysing Connections is funded by 100% of the profits from Recover-E, TechForGood's secure and sustainable IT asset disposal service.

Those profits are reinvested into technology and connectivity to create Human Connections for people experiencing digital exclusion.
